KUALA LUMPUR: Pejuang president Datuk Seri Mukhriz Mahathir stated that Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim’s government will continue to hold power even if Pakatan Harapan and Umno cease cooperation. He added that the unity government would still have a majority in Parliament without Umno’s support, as they currently have 26 MPs.

Mukhriz commented during a press conference in Mont Kiara on Wednesday (Sept 13), stating, “There are sufficient numbers to support Anwar and his unity government – with the stipulation that Perikatan Nasional does not accept these 26 Umno MPs.”

Furthermore, Mukhriz proposed a confidence and supply agreement (CSA) between Perikatan and Pakatan, or the replacement of Umno within the unity government.

“Although there are differences between Pakatan and Perikatan, if they can set aside those differences and work for the betterment of the country, I believe all of us would be pleased,” added the former Jerlun MP.

Currently, Anwar enjoys the support of 147 MPs, consisting of those from Pakatan (81), Barisan (30), Gabungan Parti Sarawak (23), Gabungan Rakyat Sabah (six), Warisan (three), and two independent MPs, as well as one each from Parti KDM and PBM.

Anwar is just one MP short of the required 148 for a two-thirds majority in Parliament, after Muda withdrew its support for the unity government.

Mukhriz expressed his hope that more MPs would voice their disagreement regarding the discharge not amounting to an acquittal (DNAA) granted to Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi. He criticized the apparent selectivity of the legal system, stating, “It used to be selective prosecution, and now it’s selective acquittal.”
