KUALA LUMPUR: Controversial blogger Papagomo has been arrested by police following the conclusion of the second day of proceedings in his trial over allegedly seditious remarks linking the government to pro-Israel and Western sentiments at the Sessions Court here on Friday (July 12).

Lawyer Muhammad Rafique Rashid Ali, representing Wan Muhammad Azri Wan Deris, also known as Papagomo, told Malay language daily Sinar Harian that his client was detained outside the court by two police officers from Bukit Aman.

“They are currently en route to the Dang Wangi district police headquarters.

“There has been a police report filed against him under the Sedition Act 1948,” Sinar Harian reported the lawyer as saying in a media statement.

He added that it was highly likely his client would be remanded Saturday (July 13) morning.

On Thursday (July 11) and Friday, the former Umno Youth exco member attended court for his ongoing trial.

On Jan 8, Wan Muhammad Azri, 41, pleaded not guilty to the charge of making seditious remarks linking the government to being pro-Israel and pro-Western on Facebook.

He was accused of inciting sedition on the Facebook page with the handle “Halid Hamidi (Halid Mat Kool)”, with the remarks being seen by an individual at a condominium unit on Jalan Tong Shin, Bukit Bintang, at 1pm on Nov 8 last year.
