KOTA KINABALU: A Korean paraglider got stuck on a tree when he lost control of his chute not long after take-off from the renowned Kokol Hill in Menggatal near here.

According to reports, the 50-year-old Cha Woo Sung deviated from the intended route due to wind conditions and technical issues before becoming stuck.

Hamsa Isnurdini, the assistant director of operations for the Sabah Fire and Rescue Department, disclosed that they were notified of the incident around 1.51pm on Sunday (Jan 28).

“Our team located him not far from where he started,” he stated in a release on Sunday, revealing that Cha was approximately a kilometer away from his takeoff point.

Lintas Fire Station chief Agustavia Joe Guasi reported that Cha was suspended in the air for about 40 minutes before firefighters successfully brought him down using a lowering method.

“We managed to rescue him from the tree and safely bring him down the hill by around 4.50pm,” she mentioned, confirming that he was unharmed.
