KUALA LUMPUR: According to Fahmi Fadzil, the Dewan Rakyat will be able to discuss Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi’s discharge not amounting to an acquittal (DNAA) when the Parliamentary Special Select Committee (PSSC) on Institutional Reform presents its report on the matter.

The Communications and Digital Minister stated that the PSSC offers the most detailed and accurate information for Members of Parliament (MPs) from both the government and the Opposition.

Fahmi, who is also the Lembah Pantai MP, suggested waiting for the PSSC to complete its work as the best course of action.

“The PSSC consists of MPs from all sides, including Perikatan Nasional, such as Arau (Datuk Seri Shahidan Kassim), Jeli (Zahari Kechik), and Besut (Datuk Che Mohamad Zulkifly Jusoh). The current and former attorneys general will also be summoned,” Fahmi explained.

He added, “The PSSC is the place for us to obtain the most detailed information compared to the Dewan Rakyat, where only MPs are allowed to speak.

“I hope all Perikatan MPs or anyone else seeking an explanation regarding the DNAA will wait for the PSSC to perform its duty.

“The PSSC will present its report to the Dewan Rakyat, and once the report is published, we can all discuss it. I request everyone to be patient,” Fahmi told reporters at the Rapid KL’s “Cerita Malaysiaku” special coach programme at the KLCC LRT station on Wednesday (Sept 13).

Fahmi emphasized that the PSSC, as a bipartisan body, has been incredibly helpful, including its involvement in the creation of legislation such as the anti-party hopping and GEG (generational endgame) anti-smoking laws.

He urged MPs to allow due process to unfold.

“Eventually, we will receive the report, and it will be presented in the Dewan Rakyat,” Fahmi stated.

According to reports, the Attorney General (AG) will be summoned to appear before the PSSC on Institutional Reform to clarify their decision to apply for the dismissal of corruption charges against Ahmad Zahid.

The High Court recently granted Ahmad Zahid a DNAA for 12 criminal breach of trust (CBT) charges, eight counts of bribery, and 27 counts of money laundering, involving millions of ringgit belonging to Yayasan Akalbudi.
