Parrot carriers a hit with bird owners abroad

CLEAR carriers that allow owners to flaunt their pets are currently a trend among pet owners, but they can be costly.

After finding that imported bird carriers were too expensive, a company manager took to designing and producing his own.

Mansor Karjin, 52, is now a commercial producer of parrot carrier boxes sold under the name “Nelly Brand”.

The parrot boxes are in demand not only from local bird enthusiasts but also those abroad, including in Thailand, Norway, Dubai, Singapore, and Brunei.

“I started making these bird boxes in December 2019 on a part-time basis.

“I have fulfilled orders for more than 500 boxes,” Mansor said of the products which he sells through social media.

“Now, Nelly Brand also has an agent in Singapore.

“I am aiming for the product to be marketed in Indonesia and am seeking an agent,” he told Bernama at the “free-fly” event organized by Perak Youth and Sports Ministry in Ipoh.

Mansor said he used three main materials to produce the clear parrot carriers, namely aluminum, solid and hollow polycarbonate as well as acrylic.

The boxes are priced from RM240 up to RM1,080, depending on design and size.

Currently, Mansor operates from his home in Shah Alam, Selangor and is planning to open a shop in the area since there are many parrot fans there.

The Segamat, Johor, native said he had three blue-and-gold macaws named Niki, Nelly, and Dio, as well as two sun conure parrots.
