PETALING JAYA: Former PAS ulama council member Ahmad Dusuki Abd Rani has decided to drop his appeal against a High Court ruling in a defamation lawsuit involving Senator Datuk Seri Dr Mujahid Yusof Rawa from Amanah.
Ahmad Dusuki initially filed the lawsuit over a Twitter post by Mujahid in November 2020, which accused him of lying about Tabung Haji assets being sold to non-Muslims during Mujahid’s tenure as Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department (Religious Affairs).
Mujahid received information from his lawyer, Noorazmir Zakaria, stating that Ahmad Dusuki withdrew his appeal at the Putrajaya Court of Appeal and had to pay RM5,000 in fees.
“With Dusuki’s decision to drop his appeal, it officially puts an end to the claims made by him and PAS that Tabung Haji assets were sold to non-Muslims during my tenure,” Mujahid stated in a Facebook post on Tuesday (Aug 29).
Mujahid further emphasized that both the Sessions Court and the High Court had confirmed that Tabung Haji assets were not sold to non-Muslims, as alleged by Ahmad Dusuki.
“My tweet, which criticized Ahmad Dusuki, was justified as it was a natural response to his statement posted on YouTube on Feb 20, 2020, alleging that Tabung Haji had sold Muslim assets to non-Muslims,” he explained.
“I am relieved that my name has been cleared and I want to express my gratitude to my lawyer.
“I hope this brings an end to the false allegations surrounding this issue,” Mujahid added.
Mujahid also mentioned that Ahmad Dusuki was ordered to pay him a total of RM23,000, which includes RM11,000 at the Sessions Court, RM7,000 at the High Court, and RM5,000 at the Court of Appeal.
