Condolences were extended by PAS deputy president Datuk Seri Tuan Ibrahim Tuan Man to the family of the late Tun Abdul Taib Mahmud, former Yang di-Pertua Negeri of Sarawak, who passed away on Wednesday (Feb 21).
In a social media post, Tuan Ibrahim Tuan Man said, “Received the sad news that Tun Abdul Taib Mahmud, the former Sarawak governor and chief minister, passed away this morning.”
He added, “My condolences to the family of Allahyarham and the people of Sarawak. May Allah continue to bless and put Allahyarham among the righteous and believers.”
The Sarawak government has announced that a state funeral for Taib will be held at the Sarawak Legislative Assembly complex on Thursday.
Members of the public can pay their last respects from 8am to 11.30am, after which his remains will be brought to Masjid Demak for prayers, followed by burial at the family’s private residence in Demak Jaya.
Tun Abdul Taib Mahmud, aged 87, passed away at a private hospital in Kuala Lumpur at 4.40am on the specified Wednesday (Feb 21).
