PETALING JAYA: Tasek Gelugor PAS Youth has warned Gerakan president Datuk Dominic Lau to refrain from contesting in Malay seats in the upcoming six state elections.
According to Mohamad Ikhwan Afiq Mohamad Anwar, the vice-chief of the division, if Lau ignores their warnings, the division will support independent candidates in Telok Ayer Tawar and Permatang Berangan.
“If Lau insists on contesting Malay seats, Tasek Gelugor PAS Youth, along with all its resources, will initiate a movement to put forward an independent candidate on nomination day (July 29).
“Our division, along with the voters in Permatang Berangan and Telok Air Tawar, will ensure that both Gerakan and Bersatu candidates contesting in the respective seats will lose if our demands are not met.
“If you play with fire, you will get burned. Do not challenge the patience of PAS Youth,” Ikhwan said in a statement posted on Facebook on Monday (July 24).
Previously, rumors circulated online that Perikatan Nasional had allocated the three state seats – Permatang Berangan, Sungai Dua, and Telok Air Tawar – under the Tasek Gelugor parliamentary constituency to its component parties.
Currently, the Tasek Gelugor parliamentary seat is held by Bersatu’s Datuk Wan Saiful Wan Jan, who won with a 12,252 majority in the 15th General Election last year.
In the 14th General Election, Barisan Nasional won Permatang Berangan and Sungai Dua with Nor Hafizah Othman and Datuk Muhamad Yusoff Mohd Noor, respectively, while PKR held the Telok Ayer Tawar state seat with Datuk Mustafa Kamal Ahmad.
