Segambut MP Hannah Yeoh emphasizes the need for younger voices to be heard alongside senior citizens in order to provide balanced views on community issues. She points out that residents associations are mostly made up of senior citizens, and it is important to have input from young people on matters such as parks and suitable developments in their areas. Yeoh made these remarks during a National Day event in her constituency, where 3,000 Malaysian flags were distributed by a 30-vehicle convoy at 10 different locations.
Yeoh, who is also the Youth and Sports Minister, believes that the next generation should be actively involved in promoting unity and participating in events such as flag distributions. The event was organized by all six subzones of the Segambut Residents Representative Council (MPP). The convoy covered more than 40km within the parliamentary constituency, with members starting their day early in the morning by decorating their vehicles with flags before setting off at 7am.
The convoy, accompanied by vehicles from the Information Department and a police escort, made a total of 10 stops, including Taman Tasik Menjalara in Kepong, morning markets, and commercial areas. The event concluded at Taman Persekutuan Bukit Kiara in Taman Tun Dr Ismail, Kuala Lumpur.
At one of the stops, the convoy hoisted the Jalur Gemilang flag while singing the national anthem and shouting “Merdeka” three times. Along the route, a total of 3,000 Malaysian flags were distributed, and patriotic songs were played by the department vehicles.
The final stop of the event was the Santai Merdeka event hosted by the Friends of Bukit Kiara. Participants and community members came together to enjoy a meal while being entertained by a live band, clown appearance, balloon sculpture, and face painting activities. Police and Fire and Rescue Department personnel from the Taman Tun Dr Ismail stations were also present.
Wan Muhammad Afiq Wan Mokhtar, the Information Department Segambut parliamentary constituency coordinator, highlighted the collaborative spirit among agencies involved in organizing events like this. He mentioned the enthusiastic response from Malaysians of all races along the route.
