KUALA LUMPUR: The Payung Rahmah initiative implemented by the Domestic Trade and Cost of Living Ministry (KPDN) has successfully stabilized inflation at a low level, showcasing its positive impact.
In line with this, the Domestic Trade and Cost of Living Minister, Datuk Seri Salahuddin Ayub, expressed that the introduction of the Menu Rahmah on January 31 has also played a significant role in curbing the inflation trend for food away from home.
“In May 2023, we observed a decline in the food and non-alcoholic beverages index, which contributed to easing inflation. It dropped to 5.9 per cent from 6.3 per cent in April 2023,” highlighted Datuk Seri Salahuddin Ayub in a statement on Tuesday (July 11).
Furthermore, he pointed out that the inflation rate for food at home also decreased from five per cent in April 2023 to 4.3 per cent in May, while food away from home experienced a decline in inflation rate as well, reaching 8.1 per cent in May this year compared to 9.6 per cent in November 2022.
As of now, there are a total of 2,922 Menu Rahmah operators across the country, along with 290 Menu Siswa Rahmah (previously known as Kafe Rahmah) operators in public universities and polytechnics, as reported by Bernama.
