KUALA LUMPUR: Waiting time on the Kelana Jaya LRT line has been reduced to 3.8 minutes with the introduction of three new trains under the KLAV27 (Kuala Lumpur Additional Vehicle) project, says Transport Minister Anthony Loke.

According to Loke, these three trains are part of a total of 27 trains worth RM1.72bil that have been acquired for the line under KLAV27.

“Prasarana Malaysia Berhad (Prasarana) and its sister company Rapid Rail Sdn Bhd (Rapid Rail) gradually acquired the new trains from September 2020 as part of this project,” he said.

So far, eleven trains have been acquired, and during peak hours from 7am to 9am and 5pm to 7pm, the rate of train arrivals has improved to less than four minutes.

“From now until December next year, the remaining 16 trains will be acquired gradually,” Loke added. He made this announcement on Thursday (Sept 14) during the launch of KLAV27 at the Pasar Seni LRT station in Kuala Lumpur.

The addition of the three new trains brings the total number of trains operating on the Kelana Jaya LRT line to 44, compared to the previous total of 38.

This particular line is the busiest under Rapid Rail, with an average of 250,000 passengers daily. It passes through highly populated areas in and around Kuala Lumpur and the Klang Valley.

Loke assured that Rapid Rail will continue to make improvements and maintenance efforts for this line, as well as for other lines under its supervision.
