A 19-year-old man in Johor Baru has been fined RM5,000 by the Magistrate’s Court for secretly recording a woman in a petrol station washroom. The incident occurred at a petrol station in Ulu Tiram at around 8.30am last Saturday. The 32-year-old victim reported the incident to the police, claiming that the suspect recorded her while she was using the toilet. The suspect was arrested at the scene and his mobile phone was seized. He appeared in court on August 13 and was fined RM5,000, with a default of 12 months’ jail if he fails to pay the fine. The charges were brought under Section 509 of the Penal Code.

Footage of the incident, recorded by a closed-circuit television camera, went viral on social media. The video showed the suspect following the woman to the washroom after she parked her car. Upon realizing she was being recorded, the woman confronted him. The police have urged the public not to engage in activities that are against the law and social norms.
