Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi has stated that the responsibility of leaders is to ensure stability and peace among the public rather than promoting hatred. The Umno president urged Malaysians not to entertain the antagonistic values espoused by Opposition parties during election seasons. He emphasized the need for the people of Pelangai to resolve their own issues in a peaceful manner, without succumbing to the divisive politics often played up during elections. Zahid also criticized the Opposition for making unrealistic promises to voters.

Zahid further expressed that Umno could not continue its alliance with PAS under the Muafakat Nasional banner due to the disloyalty shown by the Islamist party. He accused PAS of preferring short-term political arrangements, which did not align with Umno’s long-term goals. Despite attempts by detractors to influence Pelangai voters, Zahid was confident that they would continue to support Barisan Nasional in the upcoming by-election.

In order to achieve a significant victory, Zahid, who is also the Barisan chairman, called on the party machinery to maintain its momentum in winning the hearts and minds of voters. He expressed his belief that Pelangai voters want effective representation from an assemblyman who can work in sync with both the state and federal governments. Zahid made these statements during a press conference following his speech at the MyFuture Jobs Career Carnival in Felda Chemomoi, Bentong.

The Pelangai by-election is expected to be a three-cornered fight between Barisan Nasional candidate Datuk Amizar Abu Adam, PAS’ Kasim Samat from Perikatan, and Independent candidate Haslihelmy DM Zulhasli. The polling day is scheduled for Oct 7. The by-election was called due to the unfortunate death of Umno assemblyman and Pahang exco member Datuk Seri Johari Harun in a plane crash in Shah Alam on Aug 17. In the previous General Election, Johari won with a majority of 4,048 votes, defeating candidates from PAS, Pakatan Harapan, and Pejuang.
