Umno Youth chief Dr Muhamad Akmal Saleh has dismissed claims of protests among its members regarding the selection of Datuk Amizar Abu Adam as the Barisan Nasional candidate for the upcoming Pelangai state by-election. Muhamad Akmal emphasized that the Pahang and Bentong Umno Youth respect the decision-making of the party leadership and their strategy to secure victory in the election. He stated, “There is no protest from Umno Youth. There is no justification for us to protest against the candidate.”
In response to media reports that former Bentong Umno Youth member Haslihelmy DM Zulhasli is running as an Independent candidate to express his disagreement with Barisan’s decision, Muhamad Akmal commented, “There is no protest from Umno Youth. There is no justification for us to protest against the candidate.”
In regard to Haslihelmy’s independent candidacy, Umno president Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi announced on September 23 that Haslihelmy’s membership has been revoked.
The Pelangai state by-election, scheduled for October 7, will witness a three-cornered fight between Amizar, Haslihelmy, and Kasim Samat from Perikatan Nasional.
