In the Pelangai state by-election ongoing on Saturday (Oct 7), a voter named Muhamad Anilzan Pelangai Ramli, 38, caught attention due to the uniqueness of his name. Affectionately known as Pelangai, he cast his vote at Sekolah Kebangsaan Pelangai, despite living 128 kilometers away in Kuala Lumpur.
Pelangai, who hails from Kampung Jawi-Jawi, stated that he returned to Pelangai solely to exercise his right to vote. Although he has moved and runs his business in the federal capital, he frequently visits his family in Pelangai. Pelangai emphasized the importance of his vote in ensuring that the most deserving candidate wins.
A total of nine polling centres with 30 channels opened from 8 am to 6 pm for the Pelangai by-election. The election features a three-cornered fight between Barisan Nasional’s (BN) Datuk Amizar Abu Adam, Kasim Samat of Perikatan Nasional (PN), and independent candidate Haslihelmy DM Zulhasni. – Bernama
