PUTRAJAYA: The National Unity Ministry has refuted claims that the payment of fees to consulting firm Pemandu for strategic planning affairs and roadmap workshops for the Malaysian Indian Transformation Unit (Mitra) comes from the unit’s allocation. Minister Datuk Aaron Ago Dagang stated that the payment to the firm was sourced from the operational allocation of the ministry following existing financial procedures outlined in the Treasury Circular PK 3.2.

Addressing the issue, Aaron clarified, “I deny that the payment for this firm is derived from Mitra’s allocation. Additionally, I want to disprove allegations that Pemandu will be overseeing the process of reviewing applications, financial assistance, and allocation distribution of Mitra.” He emphasized that Pemandu’s role is solely to facilitate workshops and labs in order to streamline the Ministry of National Unity’s strategic planning affairs and steer Mitra towards producing its blueprint.

The Minister highlighted that Pemandu’s involvement does not diminish the role of Batu MP P. Prabakaran as Mitra’s special task force committee chairman, as Prabakaran has actively participated in discussions with Pemandu. Aaron expressed his support for Prabakaran’s engagement in these matters, welcoming and prioritizing his involvement.

As the overseeing ministry for Mitra’s governance and direction, Aaron announced plans to conduct a roadmap workshop in March and April, involving MPs, state assemblymen, non-governmental organizations, youth associations, and corporate figures. He revealed that the ministry is currently conducting a survey on the Indian community’s direction, with four MPs and assemblymen having completed the survey as of yesterday.

Stressing the importance of community participation, Aaron urged everyone to contribute their views, suggestions, and ideas on Mitra’s direction for consideration and refinement during the workshop. The goal is to gather diverse perspectives and insights to shape the future direction of Mitra effectively.

Through transparent processes and open communication channels, the Ministry is committed to fostering a conducive environment for constructive discussions and collaborative efforts in shaping Mitra’s future trajectory. By valuing diverse input and feedback, the Ministry aims to strengthen Mitra’s effectiveness and impact in promoting unity and progress among the Indian community in Malaysia.

Moving forward, the Ministry remains dedicated to coordinating efforts and resources efficiently, guided by the principles of accountability, transparency, and inclusivity. By championing unity and collaboration, the Ministry endeavors to empower Mitra to fulfill its mandate effectively and contribute meaningfully to the development and well-being of the Malaysian Indian community.
