Police in Kota Kinabalu arrested 16 individuals for various offences following a raid on two night spots in Penampang. The arrests were made early Sunday, and those taken into custody included the managers of the respective outlets and a deejay for operating the entertainment centers without valid licenses.
The authorities also seized the music equipment from both locations during the joint operation conducted by personnel from the state and district. In addition, 81 workers and customers were tested, with two men testing positive for methamphetamine.
Among the individuals picked up were six foreign women who were found to be abusing their passports to work in the night spots. Furthermore, four foreign men were detained after failing to produce any valid identification documents.
All detainees and seized items were taken to the Penampang police station for further action under the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952, state Public Entertainment Ordinance 1958, and the Immigration Act 1963, among other relevant legislation, as stated by Penampang OCPD Supt Sammy Newton on Sunday.
