GEORGE TOWN: Four men believed to be involved in a fight last month have been arrested on the Penang mainland, with one suspect found to possess a cache of weapons.
State police chief Comm Datuk Hamzah Ahmad said in the first arrest on Saturday (July 27), they detained a 27-year-old local man in Juru during a follow-up operation on the incident.
“The arrest led us to detain three more suspects (from the fight) on the mainland,” he said in a statement on Monday (July 29).
Comm Hamzah said initial investigation and inspection of the first suspect’s house in Sungai Bakap found weapons including two airguns, empty magazines, a bottle labelled “green gas” and a pack of plastic pellets.
He said the man then led police to office premises in Kampung Baru Valdor where they found a Glock pistol, a magazine and several rounds of ammunition.
Comm Hamzah said the suspect arrested in Juru was being investigated under Section 326 of the Penal Code for causing grievous hurt with a weapon, Section 8 of the Firearms (Increased Penalties) Act 1971, and Section 36 of the Arms Act 1960.
The other three suspects, aged 19 to 24, are being investigated under Section 326 of the Penal Code, he added.
All the suspects have been remanded for seven days.
