Penang police have discovered gambling activities related to the upcoming state polls on Aug 12. State police chief Datuk Khaw Kok Chin stated that although no arrests have been made yet, the police are closely monitoring the situation. He added that the gambling activities appear to be small in scale and do not involve any syndicates.
During the investigation, it was found that individuals were betting on the outcomes of the state seats in the elections. Khaw Kok Chin shared this information with reporters as he inspected the early voting process at the state contingent police headquarters (IPK) on Aug 8.
A total of 6,451 police personnel in Penang are participating in the early voting process. They will cast their ballot papers at 28 early voting centres, including 33 channels at the IPK and five district police headquarters on Aug 8.
Meanwhile, two hotspots have been identified in the state. These are the Permatang Pasir state constituency in Permatang Pauh and the Bayan Lepas state constituency in Balik Pulau. However, there have been no reported cases in these areas that threaten public order. The state police chief assured the public that everything is under control.
