Four Bangladeshi workers, originally believed to be trapped under the rubble of a collapsed logistics complex construction, have been apprehended by authorities in George Town.
After the incident occurred around 9:45 pm on Tuesday (Nov 28), the workers quickly fled the scene, with police managing to track them down in Bayan Lepas at 4 pm on Wednesday (Nov 29).
Deputy Comm Datuk Mohamed Usuf Jan Mohamad, Penang’s deputy police chief, stated that despite extensive search efforts using K-9 units and drones, the workers were not found.
“Investigations later found that they were at the scene during the incident but fled right after it,” he said.
“At 4 pm today (Nov 29), we managed to track them down in Bayan Lepas and they have been arrested.”
Meanwhile, five victims, all Bangladeshi nationals, were involved in the incident, with two injured individuals identified as 30-year-old Md Uzzal Mridha and 33-year-old Md Razu Ahamad.
Three deceased have been identified as 42-year-old Md Ahed Ali, 46-year-old Mohamad Mokaddes Ali, and 29-year-old Mohammad Sayful Islam.
Furthermore, a total of 188 rescue personnel from various agencies participated in the search and recovery operation.
