Penang will continue to fully support the Federal Government’s efforts to implement a sustainable national development agenda in line with the aspirations of Malaysia Madani, the Madani Economy: Rakyat Empowerment Framework and Sustainable Development Agenda 2030.

Chief Minister Chow Kon Yeow (pic) stated that Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim has allocated an additional RM15 billion to the existing RM400 billion budget under the 12th Malaysia Plan (12MP). This additional funding will be utilized to eradicate hardcore poverty, address fundamental infrastructure and basic needs of the people, ensure clean water supply, and more.

Chow added that the 12MP spending ceiling incorporates the expectation that Malaysia will maintain a 3.5 percent deficit target by 2025, which is crucial for the country’s economic development. Penang’s economy has grown by 13.1 percent in 2022 compared to 6.9 percent the previous year, with a GDP value of RM112.1 billion.

He further explained that the manufacturing sector typically contributes the most to economic growth, with a 15.9 percent increase in 2022 compared to 12.4 percent in the previous year.

The state-level Malaysia Day celebrations took place at Dewan Millenium in a simple but lively manner, featuring cultural performances by various races. The event was attended by Yang Dipertua Negeri Tun Ahmad Fuzi Abdul Razak and his wife Toh Puan Khadijah Mohd Nor.

The celebration embraced this year’s National Day theme of ‘Malaysia Madani: Tekad Perpaduan Penuhi Harapan’ (Determination in Unity, Fulfilling Hope). It acknowledges the resilience of Malaysians in the face of challenges and aims to create a united Malaysian society that respects diversity. The spirit of the celebration reflects the Malaysia Madani Framework, which drives a progressive and civilized society based on knowledge, tradition, treasures, and local wisdom, as mentioned by Chief Minister Chow.

Chow emphasized that this year’s theme is particularly fitting for Penang, a state that has long been driving progress and enjoying prosperity while maintaining strong unity.

He attributed the current peace and unity to the efforts and hard work of freedom fighters, urging the entire community in the state to have one determination – to preserve the prosperity, well-being, and progress of Penang.
