According to Yang di-Pertua Negri Tun Ahmad Fuzi Abdul Razak, Penang’s gross domestic product (GDP) growth of RM112.1bil last year demonstrates strong leadership from Chief Minister Chow Kon Yeow. He stated that Penang remains at the forefront, as its current policies have stimulated economic growth with the involvement of 67 projects that are expected to create 4,738 new job opportunities.

Yang di-Pertua Negri Tun Ahmad Fuzi Abdul Razak made these remarks during his speech at the investiture ceremony for his 74th birthday at Dewan Sri Pinang on Saturday (Oct 14).

During the first half of this year, the Malaysian Investment Development Authority reported approved manufacturing investments amounting to RM4.258bil in Penang.

Among the recipients of awards at the ceremony were former Universiti Tunku Abdul Rahman president emeritus Prof Tan Sri Dr Chuah Hean Teik and senior lawyer Dato Kumaraendran Kumarasamy, who were granted the Darjah Gemilang Pangkuan Negeri title “Datuk Seri.”

In addition, Teh Cheok Lim, Permatang Pauh MCA deputy chief, was conferred the Darjah Setia Pangkuan Negeri title “Datuk.”

In 2022, Penang achieved an economic growth rate of 13.1% and a GDP of RM112.1bil.
