KLANG: Selangor Ruler Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah expressed his dissatisfaction during his speech at the swearing-in ceremony of Selangor Mentri Besar Datuk Seri Amirudin Shari and the state’s new executive council. The Ruler criticized the continuous political maneuvering which he found tiresome for both the people of Selangor and himself. He urged the political leaders to prioritize the well-being of the state, as well as the future generations.
Sultan Sharafuddin emphasized his desire to witness the rejuvenation of Selangor, especially as he was getting older. He hoped to witness progress in various aspects, including physical and spiritual development, sustainable economic growth, and unity among the diverse communities in Selangor.
The Ruler also expressed his frustration with politicians who had used harsh language and involved the royal institution in their political agendas. Sultan Sharafuddin criticized this disrespect towards the royal institution and the Malay Sultanate, which serves as an umbrella for Muslims, Malays, and other communities. He reminded politicians that popularity does not give them the right to belittle others with different political viewpoints, especially by publicly insulting them.
Sultan Sharafuddin specifically referred to an incident during the Selangor election campaign, where Kedah Mentri Besar Datuk Seri Muhammad Sanusi Md Nor allegedly insulted him by questioning the appointment of Amirudin as Selangor Mentri Besar.
The Ruler also called upon the Malays in Selangor to avoid arguments and conflicts that could divide the community and tarnish the image of Islam. He urged everyone to strive for positive change in the way politics is practiced and emphasized the need to re-establish ties regardless of religion, race, or political affiliation.
Sultan Sharafuddin advised the people of Selangor to respect one another and avoid exaggerating sensitive issues that may disrupt communal harmony. He encouraged the use of social media platforms for promoting unity rather than spreading slander and hate.
