KUALA LUMPUR: Zahari Hassan (PH-Wangsa Maju), a government backbencher, became emotional as he shared the difficulties faced by homeowners who passed away before their affordable housing projects were completed. He specifically mentioned the Residensi Hektar housing project, where owners had to continue servicing their bank loans despite their homes not being ready. This project, consisting of 2,400 units, falls under the Federal Territories Affordable Housing Project (Rumawip) in the Wangsa Maju constituency.
Zahari further explained that the delayed completion of the Residensi Hektar project had resulted in various social issues. He revealed that divorce cases had emerged among the unit buyers, and unfortunately, some individuals had died before being able to move into their new homes. Displaying his distress during the Budget 2024 debate in Parliament on Wednesday (Oct 25), Zahari emphasized the importance of providing justice to the affected homebuyers. He requested the government’s assistance and support in ensuring the completion of these projects for all stakeholders involved.
Expressing his gratitude, Zahari thanked the Local Government and Development Ministry for their efforts in rescuing over 256 sick housing projects as of August 2023. He acknowledged that this accomplishment brought hope to the thousands of individuals affected by such delays.
