IPOH: Perak police have seized approximately RM49 million worth of drugs this year, according to Datuk Deputy Comm Azizi Mat Aris.
The drugs were confiscated between January and September, with Erimin 5 pills, heroin, and syabu being the most commonly seized substances.
During a narcotics cases’ items disposal ceremony at the state police contingent headquarters on Wednesday (Oct 26), he stated that a total of 10,578 individuals have been arrested, with 1,891 detained for drug distribution and 8,611 for possession.
Furthermore, 5,117 investigation papers have been launched under the Dangerous Drugs Act and Poisons Act, and 4,908 of them, which accounts for 95%, have resulted in charges being filed at court.
DCP Azizi also mentioned that drugs worth RM2.1 million from 3,706 cases completed between 2007 and 2023 will be disposed of.
The disposal will include 4.5kg of heroin, 7.6kg of ganja, 2.6kg of syabu, 76g of ketamine, 6g of ecstasy pills, 530kg of ketum leaves, and 1,915ml of cough mixtures.
All these items will be sent to a disposal site in Bukit Pelanduk, Negri Sembilan.
