The state government in Ipoh is taking proactive steps to prevent more people from becoming victims of scammers by conducting statewide awareness tours. According to State communications, multimedia and non-governmental organisations committee chairman Mohd Azlan Helmi, this initiative is a continuation of efforts made last year to combat the increasing number of victims, particularly in online scams.

One of the key focuses of these awareness tours is to educate the public about the latest online scams and to raise awareness about Internet safety and protection. Mohd Azlan mentioned that they have already visited four areas, including Behrang, Slim, Manong, and Bukit Chandan, by the month of February.

It is crucial for the public to be cautious when using online platforms for buying and selling, playing games, or conducting e-banking transactions, especially when using free Internet in public areas. This provides scammers with easy opportunities to target unsuspecting victims.

Users are advised to exercise caution when accessing the Internet at places like restaurants, supermarkets, or airports. Mohd Azlan emphasized the importance of being vigilant against suspicious invitations or offers and refraining from clicking on any provided links.

While there are efforts by computer security engineers to enhance online communications security, syndicates can still succeed in their scams if users are not aware and cautious. Therefore, it is essential for every smart device user to stay alert and protect themselves against potential scam threats to prevent any losses.

In facing the challenges of the year 2024, the government, along with relevant authorities, will continue to support prevention activities that aim to educate the public about commercial crime threats and the latest tactics used by scammers. Mohd Azlan urged the public to take precautionary measures, such as avoiding clicking on links from unknown sources and deleting suspicious messages.

Users should also refrain from downloading applications from uncertain sources to prevent malware or spyware from infecting their devices. Additionally, individuals should be cautious if they receive a message containing an OTP number, as it could indicate that a syndicate is attempting to exploit their personal information.

It is crucial for individuals to remain vigilant and informed about potential scams, especially in the digital age where online threats continue to evolve. By staying educated about the latest scam tactics and taking proactive measures to protect personal information, the public can reduce the risk of falling victim to fraudulent activities.
