Saroop Roshi, hailing from Perak, has been crowned Miss World Malaysia 2023. The grand finals took place at Sabah International Convention Centre (SICC) in Kota Kinabalu. Saroop walked away with RM15,000, sponsored products and services, and RM25,000 worth of jewellery. Natalie Ang from Penang secured the first runner-up position, winning RM5,000, while Shu Wen Chai from Sabah became the second runner-up with RM2,000 prize.
Saroop, a crowd favourite, has actively used her social media platform to raise awareness about suicide prevention programmes and mental health matters. When asked why she believes she should be the next Miss World Malaysia 2023, she stated that she has been dedicatedly working on an issue that has been disregarded in the country for several years. Saroop hopes to collaborate with the Miss World Malaysia organization and her fellow beauty pageant queens to bring tangible change to the nation.
Addressing her utilization of social media, Saroop emphasized how this tool has revolutionized the world and become a powerful force. She has employed this platform to create a positive impact on society. With her “beauty with a purpose” initiative, Saroop aims not only to promote suicide prevention but also to teach people how to overcome adversity and become ambassadors of hope. She believes that although we cannot prevent life’s inevitable challenges, we can acquire the necessary skills to handle them effectively. Saroop intends to continue using her social media influence to promote resilience and hope as Miss World Malaysia.
