TAIPING: The Perak state government plans to collaborate with the Registrar of Societies (ROS) in order to ensure that funds allocated to non-governmental organisations (NGOs) are not misused for personal gain, as stated by Mohd Azlan Helmi, the chairman of the state Communications, Multimedia and NGO Committee.
Among the preventive measures will be the requirement for NGOs to conduct annual general meetings and submit their annual statements to the ROS, he added.
“Any NGO that fails to submit their annual statement will face consequences such as suspension,” he stated during a press conference after the prize-giving event for the Perak state-level Malaysiaku Rukun Negara Sketch competition that took place at Taiping Mall on Saturday (Sept 9).
Furthermore, he recommended that individuals or groups hoping to establish an NGO should concentrate on endeavors that will bring benefits and value to society.
Regarding the sketch competition, Azlan praised it as an avenue for discovering new talents and expressed his willingness to work with the state Information Department to expand the program throughout Perak next year.
Sekolah Menengah Kebangsaan Kampung Pasir Puteh, located in the Kinta district, secured the first prize and will represent Perak in the national-level competition scheduled for October. – Bernama
