PETALING JAYA: The Ministry of Youth and Sports has announced the termination of a Perdana Fellow’s internship at the Investment, Trade and Industry Ministry (Miti) due to violations of the program’s terms and conditions.
The corporate and communication unit of the ministry stated that they were aware of an incident involving the fellow assigned to Miti.
“When applying for the Perdana Fellow program, public university students are required to list their achievements,” the ministry explained.
However, upon further investigation, it was discovered that the individual had submitted a fake certificate for one of their achievements.
The ministry emphasized that the termination was a result of the individual’s violation of the terms and conditions of the program.
According to the intern’s social media post, he claimed to have received a NASA scholarship offer and been named one of their Citizen Scientists in 2020, ranking among the top 1% in their Artemis Student Challenge Programme.
However, netizens quickly pointed out discrepancies, as his name could not be found on NASA’s website list of Citizen Scientists.
Moreover, it was discovered that the program was exclusively open to US citizens and permanent residents, with participants being required to be physically present in Houston, Texas.
The Youth and Sports Ministry also stated that the former fellow would be provided with counseling sessions.
“We will initiate an investigation to enhance the implementation of this program in the future,” the ministry added.
