PUTRAJAYA: Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim has announced that the Perdana Fellows Programme will provide young people with the opportunity to receive training to become future leaders of the country. He added that the mentoring and internship programme will enable young individuals to better understand the roles and responsibilities of Cabinet ministers.

In his statement, Anwar emphasized that the programme aims to foster exposure for participants, allowing them to benefit from the mentorship of ministers and gain insight into the daily routines, traditions, and protocols of the government. He believes that these experiences will serve to enrich their knowledge and understanding of policies.

Anwar made these remarks during the opening speech at the 2023 Perdana Fellows presentation ceremony held at the Perdana Putra Complex on August 23. A total of 56 youths have been selected to take part in the programme, which will run from August 23 to December 31.

During their participation, individuals will receive direct guidance and mentoring from Cabinet ministers. Each minister is assigned to mentor two participants from their respective ministries. Post-graduate participants will be granted a monthly allowance of RM2,000, while those still pursuing their studies will receive RM1,000 per month.

As for Anwar himself, he will personally mentor Dayang Nur Syawanie Abang Redzuan, a graduate of the European School of Political and Social Sciences, and Muhamamad Firdaus Ali, a current student at Japan’s Shiga University.

The coordination of the programme falls under the responsibility of Youth and Sports Minister Hannah Yeoh.

Anwar pointed out that the Perdana Fellows programme has selectively chosen the most accomplished graduates and students from various educational institutions throughout the country. He expressed his hope that these high-achieving individuals will benefit from the programme and become well-prepared to assume leadership roles in the future.
