PETALING JAYA: Some 63 items related to the deviant Global Ikhwan Services and Business Holding Sdn Bhd (GISB) have been seized by the Perlis Islamic Religious Affairs Department (Jaips) enforcement division.

This followed a joint raid by Jaips and the police codenamed ‘Op Global’ at two premises related to GISB in Perlis.

Among the items are books and reading materials allegedly linked to the founder of banned Al-Arqam teaching, the late Ashaari Mohammad, which was banned by the government in 1994.

“In this regard, Muslims throughout the state are advised to avoid the teachings that have been declared as deviant by the Perlis state fatwa committee,” it said in a statement posted on Facebook on Sunday (Sept 22).

On Friday (Sept 20), Perlis became the first state to issue a fatwa declaring Global Ikhwan Services and Business Holdings (GISB) as a deviant sect.

Perlis mufti Datuk Dr Mohd Asri Zainul Abidin reportedly said that the fatwa was issued after the committee received compelling evidence that the “batiniah” (esoteric) elements in GISB’s teachings are a continuation of the deviant al-Arqam teachings.

The Perlis religious department urged all parties to come forward with information related to the teachings for the authorities to take action.

“Further action will be carried out by the department in accordance with existing legal provisions and regulations set by authorities,” it said.

On Friday, it was reported that the GISB franchise outlets in Jalan Siakap 1, Kuala Perlis have ceased their operations.

It was understood that the outlets had closed down before the Perlis Fatwa Committee declared the organisation a deviant group earlier on Friday.
