KUALA LUMPUR: PETRONAS has unveiled its new National Day film called ‘Rai,’ which tells a story about friendship and unity through the power of iconic songs from the past.
The film, set in 1986, follows Amri and his friend Maniam as they relocate to Kuala Lumpur for their jobs at PETRONAS. During their time there, they attend the Pacific Asia Travel Association (PATA) conference, which coincides with Sudirman Arshad’s legendary concert in Chow Kit. It is at the concert that Amri instantly falls in love with Su Lin, one of the dance performers.
However, unexpected events take place that alter the course of their lives forever.
“Our National Day film draws inspiration from the nostalgia and melodic tunes that continue to bring together people of different generations and cultures in Malaysia,” said M. Fazli Ibrahim, PETRONAS general manager (group strategic relations and communications).
“In line with this year’s festive theme, ‘Roots of Our Future,’ the film centers around the shared history and heritage that have united Malaysians over the years.
“We are delighted to launch this film during PETRONAS’ 49th Anniversary. This milestone of nearly five decades shares the same spirit as the National Day film, as past successes pave the way for future progress,” he added.
The film also includes Sudirman’s song ‘Warisan,’ courtesy of Sony and Universal Music.
