SEREMBAN: In the upcoming Aug 12 polls in Negri Sembilan, Datuk Seri Jalaluddin Alias has announced that there will be no seat swapping between Pakatan Harapan and Barisan Nasional. However, Barisan may potentially be given one or two additional seats to contest. Jalaluddin, the state Umno liaison committee chairman, stated, “There will be no swapping of seats. But if the Pakatan and Barisan leadership decide that we (Barisan) get more seats, this I believe will be announced anytime.”
During the previous general election, Pakatan Harapan emerged victorious in 20 seats, leaving Barisan with the remaining 16. Jalaluddin was asked to comment on rumors that Barisan had its sights set on the Lenggeng and Klawang seats currently held by Amanah. He responded, “We should not believe rumors all the time. What I can tell you now is that there will be no seat swapping.”
Previously, Jalaluddin expressed his hopes that Barisan would be allowed to contest 18 seats, despite winning only 16 in the last polls. He emphasized that this would ensure fair competition between Pakatan and Barisan, allowing Barisan candidates to be fielded in every parliamentary constituency.
Additionally, Jalaluddin confirmed that Umno is prepared to field its candidate in Jeram Padang, which was previously held by MIC. With MIC deciding against contesting in the state election, Umno will discuss this matter with the party president and Barisan leadership to agree on fielding a candidate from Umno in that area.
