THE Sungai Langat Flood Mitigation Plan Phase 2 needs to commence immediately without any excuses, according to Sepang MP Aiman Athirah Sabu.
In a Facebook post, she stated that as of 4pm Tuesday (Nov 7), 534 individuals from 180 families had been evacuated from their flooded residences in Dengkil, Selangor, to five temporary evacuation centres since Nov 5.
The affected areas include Kampung Cemperai, Kampung Sri Tanjung, Kampung Jenderam Hilir, Sepang Puspen, and several main roads maintained by the state.
“I was informed by the Sepang Disaster Management Committee, led by the Sepang District Officer, that the flood was triggered by the prolonged heavy rainfall brought by the North-East Monsoon, causing several rivers to overflow, namely Sungai Langat, Sungai Semenyih, and Sungai Labu,” Aiman said.
“The North-East Monsoon is expected to continue until December.
“I was informed that the project’s tender acceptance letter has already been issued.
“Therefore, I hope the project will begin soon,” she added.
Aiman also expressed her concern about the ongoing repairs to the Sungai Langat bund being carried out by the Irrigation and Drainage Department (DID).
She further highlighted her worries about the persistent flooding at the Kiwa Kota Warisan junction, which is impacting traffic flow.
“I have raised this issue multiple times during meetings with the Public Works Department and DID.
“I hope all the raised concerns will be taken into serious consideration.
“I have also discussed these matters with the relevant ministers, namely from the Works Ministry and the Natural Resources, Environment, and Climate Change Ministry,” she revealed.
Aiman mentioned that she and her team have visited all five temporary evacuation centres to ensure everything is in order and have provided basic essentials, including food and drinks.
