A 34-year-old pillion rider died after the motorcycle she was on collided with a lorry and a four-wheel drive vehicle in Kota Kinabalu on September 11. Kota Kinabalu acting OCPD Supt Kalsom Idris said the accident occurred at 8.20am on Jalan Pulutan, Menggatal. The woman suffered head injuries and was pronounced dead at Likas Hospital at 10.10am. Her 29-year-old husband, who was driving the motorcycle, sustained minor injuries and is receiving treatment at Queen Elizabeth Hospital 1. The drivers of the lorry and the four-wheel drive vehicle were uninjured.

Preliminary investigations revealed that the 47-year-old lorry driver was traveling from Kampung Pulutan towards a workshop. As he approached the workshop, he attempted to make a right turn when the motorcycle collided with the side of the lorry. The impact caused the motorcycle to veer to the right and hit a parked four-wheel drive vehicle. Superintendent Kalsom stated that investigations under section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987, which pertains to causing death by reckless or dangerous driving, are ongoing.
