SHAH ALAM: The Petaling Jaya Dispersal Link (PJD Link Expressway) development project was cancelled due to non-compliance with the government’s requirements, according to Datuk Seri Amirudin Shari.
The caretaker mentri besar stated that the decision was based on an assessment report from the Town and Country planning department.
“Based on the decision made last year, the project would be automatically cancelled if the Social Impact Assessment (SIA) or the Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) was not fulfilled,” he told reporters at a press conference in Shah Alam on Monday (July 31), after unveiling the unity pact’s manifesto for Selangor.
“It was a policy decision,” he added.
Therefore, he explained that there would be no legal repercussions from the cancellation of the project.
Amirudin further stated that the government also wanted to address the congestion problem in Petaling Jaya, but the project could not proceed at this time due to unmet conditions.
Earlier on Monday (July 31), Amirudin had announced the decision to scrap the project.
The proposed PJD Link is a 25.4km dual-lane tolled elevated expressway that would connect Damansara to Bandar Kinrara.
It would have passed through several areas in Petaling Jaya, including Jalan Penchala and Jalan Utara.
Residents had also put pressure on the Selangor government to cancel the proposed elevated highway project due to concerns about traffic and the environment.
