In Tokyo’s Haneda Airport, a Japan Airlines airplane was seen on fire on the runway on Tuesday (Jan 2), as shown in television footage.
The plane was seen moving swiftly along the runway before a burst of orange flames erupted from underneath it, as seen in images broadcasted by NHK. The exact cause of the incident was not immediately known, but TV reports suggested that the Airbus had collided with a coastguard aircraft.
NHK reported that all 367 passengers on the plane had been safely evacuated. However, officials were not immediately available for comment at the time.
Footage from the television showed flames coming out of the plane’s windows and the nose of the aircraft on the ground as rescue workers sprayed it with water. There was also burning debris visible on the runway. – AFP
