According to Socso, eight out of the ten families affected by the aircraft crash at the Guthrie Highway near Bandar Elmina, Shah Alam are eligible for compensation. Socso confirmed that the heirs of eight individuals involved in the mishap qualify to receive compensation. One of the heirs will receive survivors’ pension benefit under the Employees’ Social Security Act, six heirs will receive dependents’ benefit under the Employees’ Social Security Act, and the remaining heir will receive dependents’ benefits under the Self-Employment Social Security Act and survivors’ pension under the Employees’ Social Security Act.

The incident occurred on August 17, when Pelangai assemblyman Datuk Seri Johari Harun and five other passengers onboard a Beechcraft 390 Premier I business jet crashed near Bandar Elmina. The pilots, Shahrul Kamal Roslan and Heikal Aras Abdul Azim, as well as Grab driver Sharipuddin Shaari and Foodpanda delivery rider Muhamad Hafiz Muhamad Salleh, were also killed in the mishap.

The aircraft was en route from Langkawi International Airport to Sultan Abdul Aziz Shah Airport when it crashed about three minutes before landing. Socso has provided RM2,000 for funeral arrangements to families of seven victims, while the benefit for Muhamad Hafiz is still pending further details from his family.

Socso reported that compensation to Johari’s heirs is being processed under survivors’ benefit. Similarly, payments for Muhamad Hafiz are being processed under survivors’ benefit and dependants’ benefit. The compensation payments for the heirs of the six other victims are being processed under dependants’ benefit. It was also noted that Idris Abdol did not qualify for benefits as he was a civil servant, while Sharipuddin, the Grab driver, did not make any contributions to the social security fund.
