IPOH: Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim is urging citizens to embrace the concept of “Tabayyun” as a means to maintain stability and harmony in the country. In a speech delivered by Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Fadillah Yusof at the National Month and Fly Jalur Gemilang 2023 celebrations in Meru Raya on Sunday (July 16), the Prime Minister emphasized the importance of this practice in preventing acts of defamation and preserving peace among the multiracial society.
Tabayyun refers to the verification and validation of truthfulness, in Arabic. With the rise of a borderless world, the quick sharing and spreading of information has led to a mix of right and wrong in the virtual realm, often causing conflicts that pose a threat to peace and harmony, Anwar explained.
He emphasized the significance of checking and verifying information before disseminating it to others, as a way to combat the spread of false news. By adopting this practice, people will indirectly develop a cautious approach in drawing conclusions, Anwar added.
Furthermore, the concept of Tabayyun is highly relevant in the context of social media, where information can be easily and rapidly shared. Anwar called for the adoption of this practice to ensure the responsible and integrity-filled dissemination of information.
