KUALA LUMPUR: Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim expressed his condolences to the family of the late Datuk Zulkefly Mohamad Omar, vice-chairman of Negri Sembilan Amanah, who passed away on Saturday (Oct 21).
In a post on Facebook, the Prime Minister prayed that Zulkefly’s soul would be blessed and placed among the believers and righteous.
Zulkefly, who previously served as the Speaker of the Negri Sembilan state assembly, died at the age of 59 at Serdang Hospital, Selangor.
The news of his death was confirmed by Negri Sembilan Speaker Datuk MK Ibrahim Abd Rahman, who stated that Zulkefly was admitted to the hospital’s Intensive Care Unit (ICU) for two days due to complications from various health issues.
Zulkefly began his political career with PAS and contested the Lenggeng state seat in the 10th General Election (GE10) in 1999. He served as the state PAS commissioner from 2007 to 2011.
After joining Amanah, Zulkefly ran for the Johol state seat in GE14 and the Jelebu parliamentary seat in GE15 in November last year.
He was appointed as the Negri Sembilan Speaker in July 2018 and held the position until last month. – Bernama
