Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim had an audience with UAE President Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan at the presidential palace in Abu Dhabi. Anwar is on a two-day working visit to the United Arab Emirates, which began on Thursday (Oct 5). He arrived at the Qasr Al Shati at 11am and held a four-eye meeting with Sheikh Mohamed, who is also the Ruler of Abu Dhabi.
The discussion between the two leaders revolved around bilateral ties and exploring opportunities for collaboration that supports the sustainable development goals of both Malaysia and the UAE. They also reviewed the existing cooperation between their countries and explored ways to further strengthen their ties, particularly in the areas of economy, trade and investment, renewable energy, and food security. These areas align with the vision of both nations for a sustainable and prosperous future.
During the meeting, the leaders also expressed their interest in working towards establishing a comprehensive economic partnership between Malaysia and the UAE in the near future. Additionally, they discussed the latest regional and international developments and exchanged views on various topics of mutual interest.
Foreign Minister Datuk Seri Dr Zambry Abdul Kadir, Investment, Trade and Industry Minister Tengku Datuk Seri Zafrul Tengku Abdul Aziz, and Malaysian Ambassador to the UAE Datuk Seri Ahmad Fadil Shamsuddin were also present during the meeting.
Prior to the audience with Sheikh Mohamed, Anwar had a meeting with UAE Investment Minister Mohamed Hassan Al Suwaidi. In addition, he also had informal sessions with M. A. Yusuff Ali, chairman and managing director of Lulu Group International; Sheikh Hamed Zayed Al Nahyan, managing director of Abu Dhabi Investment Authority (ADIA); and Khaldoon Al Mubarak, CEO of Mubadala Group.
Anwar also participated in a roundtable meeting with industry leaders in the UAE.
