    PM Anwar to visit Germany from March 10-15

    Putrajaya: Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim will embark on his first official visit to Germany as Prime Minister, spanning from March 10 to 15.

    In an announcement made on Saturday (March 9), Wisma Putra disclosed that he will be joined by Foreign Minister Datuk Seri Mohamad Hasan, Investment, Trade and Industry Minister Tengku Datuk Seri Zafrul Tengku Abdul Aziz, and Entrepreneur and Cooperatives Development Minister Datuk Ewon Benedick.

    Throughout the visit, the Prime Minister is set to engage in a bilateral meeting with his German counterpart, Chancellor Olaf Scholz.

    The discussions between the two leaders will focus on the advancement of Malaysia-Germany relations, specifically in areas of economic cooperation, education, environment, and sustainability, in addition to sharing perspectives on regional and global matters of shared concern.

    Additionally, the Prime Minister will extend a courtesy visit to President Frank-Walter Steinmeier.

    While in Berlin, the Prime Minister will speak at the Körber Foundation, a non-profit organization concentrating on social and political issues, and deliver a keynote address at the SME Future Day 2024 organized by the German Association of Small and Medium-sized Businesses (BVMW).

    The Prime Minister is also slated to engage with industry leaders and potential investors from Europe, participate in an interview with a respected local media outlet, and attend an iftar with Malaysian diaspora members in the country.

    Anwar will also travel to Hamburg to partake in the 101st East Asia Friendship Dinner hosted by the German Asia-Pacific Business Association, where he will give a speech.

    Furthermore, he is expected to provide an exclusive interview to the German Press Agency.

    As stated by Wisma Putra, the purpose of the visit is to reinforce the enduring relationship and diverse cooperation between Putrajaya and Berlin.

    Germany has been Malaysia’s top trading partner among European Union member countries since 2000, while Malaysia is the leading trading partner for Germany within the ASEAN member states.

    In 2023, Malaysia’s total trade with Germany rose by 5.9% to RM63.45 billion (US$13.90 billion) compared to RM59.87 billion (US$13.62 billion) in 2022. – Bernama
