Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim has reassured the Indian community that their issues will be addressed by the unity government. The Prime Minister emphasized that the government would continue to develop policies to address issues faced by all communities.
Anwar acknowledged that while the majority of those living in poverty are Malays, there is a need to confront the reality that the poorest among them are ethnic Indians. He stressed that poverty eradication should not be approached with a Malay or Indian policy, but rather with a Malaysian policy that caters to all Malaysians regardless of race.
Furthermore, Anwar highlighted the allocation of an additional RM1.4 billion for the repair of dilapidated schools across the country, including vernacular schools. He stated that education and schools also require a Malaysian approach.
During his meeting with MIC leaders, Anwar also acknowledged the lack of representation of Indians and promised to discuss this issue with his colleagues, including Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi.
Anwar emphasized that unity among races is essential in addressing issues related to race and religion. He expressed his concern about the exploitation of sensitive issues and the claim that non-Malays are taking over the country. Anwar considered such actions detrimental to the nation’s survival and urged unity among Malaysians to prevent civil strife and wars.
In response, MIC president Tan Sri SA Vigneswaran pledged continued support for Anwar’s administration throughout its term in office.
