PETALING JAYA: Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim expressed his hope for better cooperation among all parties during the latest Parliament session, emphasizing the importance of unity for the country and its people. Alongside his wife, Datuk Seri Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail, Anwar attended the first Meeting of the Third Session of the 15th Parliament on Monday (Jan 26), which was opened by His Majesty Sultan Ibrahim, King of Malaysia.
In a statement, the Prime Minister called for the strengthening of cooperation among all parties to work towards the development and progress of the nation for the benefit of its citizens. This marks Sultan Ibrahim’s first time addressing the Dewan Rakyat since assuming the role of the 17th Yang di-Pertuan Agong earlier this year.
The presence of Her Majesty Raja Zarith Sofiah, Queen of Malaysia, alongside His Majesty added a regal touch to the occasion as they were warmly welcomed by Prime Minister Anwar, Deputy Prime Ministers Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi and Datuk Seri Fadillah Yusof, Dewan Rakyat Speaker Datuk Johari Abdul, and Dewan Negara President Datuk Mutang Tagal.
Deputy Prime Minister Ahmad Zahid reiterated the government’s unwavering commitment to the proceedings of the first meeting of the Third Session of the 15th Parliament. He emphasized that government MPs were fully prepared to engage in a royal debate following the address delivered by Sultan Ibrahim during the opening ceremony.
“Together with the Prime Minister and government MPs, we are fully prepared for the royal address debate, which commences tomorrow and will provide a high commitment to this Parliament session, God willing,” Ahmad Zahid stated.
