KUALA LUMPUR: Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim has extended an invitation to all business leaders from the Chinese and Indian communities to attend the Bumiputera Economic Congress 2024 (KEB 2024).
During a speech at the Chinese New Year celebration organized by the Associated Chinese Chambers of Commerce and Industry of Malaysia (ACCCIM), Anwar emphasized that the input from leaders of their respective communities is crucial in addressing the economic challenges faced by the Bumiputera community.
“This year’s Bumiputera Congress will be more inclusive than in previous years. While it will still focus on the issues faced by the Bumiputera community, the government’s approach should be more inclusive,” Anwar said.
“We are seeking participation from the Chinese and Indian communities, and I hope ACCCIM is ready to engage in discussions.”
“An inclusive approach involves discussing the Bumiputera economy and addressing issues such as small and medium enterprises (SMEs) or poverty within the Indian community,” he added during the event at Shangri-La Hotel on Thursday (Feb 15).
The KEB 2024 is set to take place from Feb 29 to March 2 and is expected to be attended by over 3,000 participants, including representatives from the Malay, Kadazandusun, Dayak, Iban, and Orang Asli communities.
Anwar also assured that the government would continue its programs to eradicate hardcore poverty in the nation, regardless of race.
He also emphasized the government’s commitment to fighting corruption, stating that it would pursue individuals involved in graft cases, regardless of their background. Anwar, who also serves as the Finance Minister, made these remarks at the event.
The event was attended by Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Fadillah Yusof; Housing and Local Government Minister Nga Kor Ming; Human Resources Minister Steven Sim; Dewan Rakyat Speaker Tan Sri Johari Abdul, MCA president Datuk Seri Dr Wee Ka Siong and ACCCIM president Tan Sri Low Kian Chuan.
