KUALA LUMPUR: Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim is set to provide an explanation on the outcome of the corruption case involving Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi in Parliament tomorrow (Sept 19)
“Insyallah, the Prime Minister will be in the Dewan Rakyat tomorrow (Sept 19) between 2.30pm or 3pm to answer,” the Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department (Law and Institutional Reforms) Datuk Seri Azalina Othman Said (pic) said in Dewan Rakyat on Monday. (Sept 18)
In response to a question from Opposition leader Datuk Seri Takiyuddin Hassan about whether the Tambun MP would clarify the court’s decision to grant Ahmad Zahid a discharge not amounting to an acquittal (DNAA) in his recent corruption case, Azalina stated, “Will Tambun be present in Dewan to explain the DNAA as what he said he would do last Friday?,” Takiyuddin asked during Azalina’s ministerial wrap up on the 12th Malaysia Plan mid-term review.
The High Court granted Ahmad Zahid a discharge not amounting to an acquittal for all 47 graft charges relating to Yayasan Akalbudi funds. The Deputy Public Prosecutor, Datuk Mohd Dusuki Mokhtar, applied for the charges against Zahid to be dropped at the beginning of the hearings on Sept 4.
This decision came after the Attorney General’s Chambers accepted a letter from the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) on Feb 20, 2023, requesting a review of the charges against Ahmad Zahid, as stated in a statement from Ahmad Zahid’s lawyers.
