Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim expressed that the prime minister’s position will continue to be held by a Malay, regardless of whether it’s from the government or the opposition bloc.

He emphasized the importance of moving forward, safeguarding the rights of the people, and protecting the interests of all citizens, ethnicities, and regions. Anwar made these comments to reporters after prayers at the Al-Kauthar Mosque, Bandar Baru Bangi on December 15.

Regarding the call by Bersatu Youth chief Wan Ahmad Fayhsal Wan Ahmad Kamal to amend the Federal Constitution so that only a Malay can become prime minister, Anwar stated that such an amendment was unnecessary.

He mentioned that there has been no serious discussion on this issue thus far, in response to Wan Ahmad’s call after DAP veteran Tan Sri Lim Kit Siang wrote a blog entry on November 30 suggesting that the Constitution allows for a non-Malay to be a prime minister.

Anwar also reminded the Opposition not to provoke issues that could lead to racial disharmony and disputes.

He emphasized that the Federal Constitution has established rules regarding this matter and it has never been a significant issue. Anwar also addressed the Opposition’s claims about redelineation, labeling it a non-issue and asserting that their purpose is simply to create disputes and incite anger among the people.

Anwar stressed that instead of focusing on divisive issues, the Opposition should direct their efforts towards finding ways to strengthen the country’s economy and alleviate the burden on the people. This statement was reported by Bernama.
