The construction progress of the Rapid Transit System Link (RTS Link) was at 65% completion as of Dec 31, indicating that the project is on schedule to be finished by the end of 2026.
A ceremony held in Johor Baru on Thursday (Jan 11) saw the Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim and his Singapore counterpart Lee Hsien Loong witnessing the historic completion of the connecting span for the RTS project.
The span serves as the meeting point of the project’s marine viaduct between Johor Baru and Singapore, and marked the first time that the two top leaders had visited the project site.
At the ceremony, Anwar and Lee signed two plaques reaffirming the commitment of both countries to the construction of the RTS Link.
Transport Minister Anthony Loke, Singapore Acting Transport Minister Chee Hong Tat, and Johor Mentri Besar Datuk Onn Hafiz Ghazi were also present at the event.
Spanning about 4km, the RTS Link project is a commuter train network with stations located at Bukit Chagar in Johor Baru and at Woodlands North in Singapore.
Intended to accommodate up to 10,000 passengers per hour in each direction and providing a travel time of approximately five minutes between the two stations, the RTS line aims to offer a convenient and comfortable journey between Singapore and Johor Baru.
