Perikatan Nasional, a coalition candidate in the state polls, has stated that they will not adopt the Kedah caretaker government’s policy of banning gambling, including 4D gaming outlets, in Negri Sembilan if they rule the state. Tang Jay Son, the Gerakan candidate for Chuah, highlighted the difference between Kedah and Negri Sembilan. While Kedah has a majority Muslim population which influences their policy-making, Chuah has a larger Chinese voter population and thus policies should consider diversity and mutual respect in a multiracial state.

Tang emphasized that if Perikatan wins the state, they will not close gambling and lottery outlets as the gaming industry pays taxes to the government. He acknowledged that some voters in the area are concerned about PAS being in power but explained that it is Gerakan’s responsibility to educate voters on respecting each other and promoting a balanced approach.

Yew Boon Lye, the Pakatan Harapan candidate, reminded Gerakan that the closure of gaming outlets falls under the authority of the state government. He argued that the government should respect people’s freedom and choice, especially considering the reminders in various outlets that Muslims are not allowed to participate in betting.

Yew also expressed doubt that the “green wave” that brought unexpected gains to Perikatan in the 15th General Election would have the same impact in Negri Sembilan, as the people of Negri Sembilan live harmoniously among all ethnic groups.

Chuah, located within the Port Dickson parliamentary constituency, has a diverse voter population consisting of Chinese (57.45%), Indians (24.13%), Malays (18.12%), and others (0.3%). Both Tang and Yew are contesting in their first election.
