Perikatan’s manifesto for Selangor contains packages worth RM2bil
Shah Alam: Perikatan Nasional is offering 20 cubic metres of free water to Selangor households with monthly incomes of below RM15,000 if the coalition manages to secure a win in the election on Aug 12.
This is among the initiatives announced by Perikatan Nasional chairman Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin when unveiling the coalition’s manifesto with the theme “Selangor Baharu, Kita Bangkit” or “Arise for a New Selangor”.
Free water is listed among the initiatives of the manifesto which contains seven main thrusts, 25 approaches and 112 offers.
The manifesto is estimated to offer packages and initiatives for Selangor residents worth more than RM2bil to address the rising cost of living.
Among the notable initiatives announced by Muhyiddin is Bantuan Prihatin Keluarga Selangor with an allocation of RM312mil to assist 65,000 families with a RM400 monthly cash aid.
The Bersatu president, who is also a former prime minister, announced a yearly allocation of RM200mil to address burst pipes and a replacement programme to change leaky water pipes in 100 hotspots in the state.
“We will prepare funds worth RM10mil as an incentive to NGOs to implement conservation programmes,” he said when launching the manifesto here last night.
Muhyiddin said the coalition would allocate RM10mil under Selangor Harmoni for NGOs to implement a programme that could foster harmony among the state’s diverse communities.
“The coalition is committed to defending the Federal Constitution and the state constitution as well as upholding Islam as the religion of the federation.
“We are also committed to protecting individuals’ right to practise any faith without discrimination against any groups.
“A special agency will be formed to empower efforts to improve the socioeconomic standing of minority communities, especially the Indian and Orang Asli communities, with an allocation of RM50mil,” he said.
Perikatan pledged to allocate a special fund of RM100mil for young agricultural entrepreneurs, as well as RM150mil for the setting up of a mega food hub through the Selangor Food Fund.
Muhyiddin also announced plans to turn Selangor into a prestigious tourism spot with an allocation of RM200mil in efforts to bring more tourists to the state.
The coalition pledged to provide free parking under local councils in northern Selangor and to exempt licence fees for hawkers and traders.
Muhyiddin highlighted women as the main pillar of society, and pledged to allocate RM50mil for government agencies to develop childcare centres at the workplace.
“A new initiative called Wanita Waja will be introduced to provide RM500 monthly for three months, counselling services, as well as skills and mentoring programmes for divorced or widowed women who need support.”
The manifesto pledged to provide RM5,000 to all Parent-Teacher Associations each year in schools registered under the state, including SJK(C) and SJK(T) with an allocation of RM5mil.
Muhyiddin said there are plans to establish what is called the Selangor Economic Recovery Action Council to review the state’s economic status and resolve cost of living issues.
The coalition also promised to give two months’ special allowances for civil servants in Selangor to recognise their role in the development of the state.
“We will increase the allowance to three months if the financial situation allows us to do so,” he said.
Also present at the event were Selangor Perikatan chairman Datuk Seri Mohamed Azmin Ali, Selangor PAS commissioner Datuk Dr Mohd Yunus Hairi and Selangor Bersatu chairman Datuk Abdul Rashid Asari.
